Applications now closed

We are looking for local people to be part of a new Community Liaison Group! Applications are now open and will close on 7 April 2021. A summary of the information is below, but please see the full details in the recruitment pack on this page.

What is the Community Liaison Group?

The Community Liaison Group is:

  • a forum for local people (CO postcode) to come together and learn about the plans for the Tendring Colchester Borders Garden Community and to share their ideas
  • a way for local people to help contribute to the decisions being made, informing the development of the Garden Community
  • a way for local people to help make sure engagement with the wider community is interesting and suitable for all kinds of people

What are we looking for?

We are looking for 8-12 members of the community to be part of the group. We’re looking for people who are:

  • from different backgrounds, circumstances and experiences
  • passionate about their local community and want to be involved in shaping life in the future in the Garden Community

What does the role involve?

  • receiving information about the project regarding plans and developments
  • suggesting and discussing ideas to help the project progress
  • listening to others on the group and respectfully debating ideas and views
  • helping to feed into the Development Plan Document, which will guide the project’s vision, themes and principles
  • providing a resident’s perspective on the development process
  • helping to share relevant information with the wider community, when needed
  • engaging as an individual (rather than on behalf of a wider group) – providing your insight, views and ideas as a member of the local community

What time commitment is needed?

We anticipate the initial time commitment to be 5-10 hours over the first month or so. This could be during the day, but this can change depending on when is convenient.

The first month will involve getting to know each other and sessions to think about how the group will work, and selecting a Chairperson.

After the first month, the time commitment will depend on how much is going on and how much you want to learn about the topics being considered. We’d estimate around 3-5 hours per month. This will include attending meetings, reviewing information and providing feedback and ideas.

What's in it for you?

  • being part of an interesting, important process to shape a new Garden Community in the area
  • learning about the process of making places for the future, working with planners, urban designers, and other experts
  • making sure that the needs and ambitions of local people like yourself are properly considered, providing opportunities for you and your peers for the future
  • developing skills in teamwork, communication and working with others
  • experience for future job/volunteering opportunities
